PAINTINGS

I begin every painting in a naturalistic manner, painstakingly depicting as much detail as the hand and eye permit. After considerable care and control is given to grasp a clear image, I then introduce the element of chance into the work by mechanically and unsentimentally passing over the painting with a massive brush, what could be likened to the technique of sfumato. The consequence is that of revealing the fragility of things while erasing everything but what is important.

PHOTOGRAPHY

In this body of work, I subvert the boundaries of photography, converging it with the expressive realm of painting. I harvest visual fragments—textures, shapes, forms—from the world and my studio, distorting and layering them into abstract compositions. Each piece, birthed from this fusion, oscillates between the serene and the jarring, embodying a contemplative chaos that challenges perception. Resonating with a painterly essence, these works exist in a liminal space, confounding viewer expectations, and inciting a reevaluation of the visual vocabulary we take for granted.

DRAWINGS

In my drawings, I explore the profound complexity that emerges from the simple act of line-making. Each line, a narrative in itself, accumulates into intricate patterns and rhythms that move across the surface, reflecting the dynamic interplay of order and chaos that defines existence. These patterns, grounded in the tangible world through meticulous detail, invite observers to engage with the familiar in unfamiliar ways, finding depth and meaning in the everyday. My work is a visual meditation on interconnectedness, a celebration of life’s complexity, a testament to the extraordinary beauty that can be found in the ordinary and seemingly simple when seen with a discerning eye, and the notion that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
