PHOTOREALISM AND TACTILITY

The surface acts as a dialectical space where the boundaries of perception and sensation dissolve and converge. In the search for photorealistic veracity, my work is not mere imitation, but rather an exploration into the manifold nuances of seeing and feeling. Each brushstroke, whilst meticulously crafted to mirror reality, simultaneously embodies the abstract domain of tactile emotionality. The very method I use, with its accumulating layers of under-paintings, also known as pentimento, serves not only as a testament to the passage of time or an alteration of thought, but a model for the layered and often concealed complexities of human experience. It stands as a poignant reminder that perfection is a culmination of imperfections. What is more, pentimento becomes a profound expression for impermanence, transformation, and the ever-evolving nature of intention. These ghostly remnants, sometimes hiding just beneath the surface, convey a simultaneous acknowledgment of both vulnerability and evolution. In this landscape, duality is not a paradox but a harmonious synthesis; a reflection on the inexorable intertwining of precision and passion, the tangible and the transcendent. Such is the dialectics of my paintings, where the rich textural history on the surface dialogues with the elusive essence of meaning.
